Chateau Caladroy Muscat de Rivesaltes

Year: 2010
Rating: 91
Rated by: Cellartracker

Varietal: Vin Doux Naturele

Region: Roussillon. France

Description: In its heyday, Château de Caladroy was a small outpost high in the arid hills behind Perignan near the Franco-Spanish border. It had its own school, workers' quarters stable, chapel and yes, vineyards. Today the Château and vineyards still exist although they have been extensively replanted, with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre dominating. Yields here average 25hl/ha, far below the permissable 45hl/ha granted to the A.O.C. of "Côtes du Roussillon Villages." Moreover, the cellar was recently completely re-vamped, enabling cellar master Jean-Philippe Agen to make some super wine.

Pairings: This fortified dessert wine is ideal with fruit based sweets or all on its own at the close of a summertime meal. It offers tropical fruit and wondrous balancing acidity. 15.5% abv.
